My job as a counsellor is to be supportive of clients who are not dependent on intake of medicines. If anytime a client of psychosis comes for counselling I refer them to an appropriate clinic or hospital for their well-being. During the first consultation or referral I find out about the client as much information on the client in order to understand their particular worries and clear any misgivings they might have regarding counselling and how my practice works. Clients are seen through appointments, GP referrals, self referral or from other clinics. Clients can be seen seen due to emergency, emergency number is given, but clients are encouraged to make appointments before entering the clinic. My clinic displays clearly emergency telephone as well local hospital number.
During counselling sessions and after it has completed I don't begin to socialise with the client for a long time in order to maintain professionalism and at the same time to prevent doubts and legal battles.
